[otrs] Using another mysql db as customer/contact backend

Dear all

Is it possible to 'hook in' another mysql db to auto populate values
such as CustomerID?

We currently have an accountancy program running on another mysql
4.0.20a db. All customers (companies) and contacts (individuals) are
already input here. Would be great if OTRS could use this info. Any
ideas how and what I need to change/configure?

I would really appreciate your comments for a complete beginner! Many
thanks in advance.
