In order to not lose any information, you must do regular backups. :o)

In order to upgrade your database you run the applicable DB-update  
scripts that you find in the scripts directory. Since you're talking  
about 2.0.4-3 I assume you're talking about some distribution-specific  
package (which may run these DB-update scripts for you), so you  
probably don't want to upgrade using the source package. What OS are  
you on?
