[sirios-announce] Release Note SIRIOS 2.2.0 beta1

We are proud to announce that SIRIOS 2.2.0 beta1 has been 
released today.

This is a beta release of SIRIOS 2.2. which is not recommended
to use for productive operation. Beta releases are published 
for test purposes only.

SIRIOS is a well proven solution based on OTRS that has 
been designed to efficiently handle IT security incidents. 
The software was designed focussing on CERTs and their specific
requirements but might also be used in any environment where
organizational (IT-) security incidents need to be managed.

SIRIOS 2.2. requires a pre-installation of OTRS 2.3.

Stable release:
===============

The stable minor release is planned to be released 
Oct. 20th 2008

Packages:
=========

* SIRIOS: contains an example config., which provides a 
  CERT-specific pre-configuration.
* Advisory module: EISPP compatible advisory authoring and 
  publishing system
* Artefact database: Central repository for logfiles, exploits, 
  binaries, etc.
* IDMEF console: A viewer for IDMEFs reported by Intrusion 
  Detection Systems
* Incident module: An IODEF compatible incident tracking module
* Vulnerability database: Vulnerability database, able to 
  interpret CVE and OSVDB
* Web Watcher: Module to monitor changes in online resources
* XML2: This module is required by the IDMEF console.

Enhancements:
=============

* Framework: SIRIOS has been ported to the new OTRS 2.3 
  framework.
* SIRIOS does not require the category module to be installed
  anymore
* An installation, update and uninstall descriptions has been 
  added to the package.
* The example configuration provided with the SIRIOS package
  has been reorganized which eases the configuration in case
  that the SIRIOS package is not installed. Outdated 
  configuration options have been removed.
* The systems architecture has been changed focussing on 
  modularization
* Plain e-Mail addresses can be used as contact info while 
  recording an incident.
* Multi-queue handling for incidents has been added to allow
  data separation between different departments
* The multi language handling for advisories have been 
  improved.

Minor Bugfixes:
===============

* Bug #3152 – Within the english environment of link tables some 
              german terms where not mapped to english terms 
              correctly.

* Documentation has not been updated right now.

Important for Upgrading:

For those folks who are using OTRS 2.1 or OTRS 2.2 and 
want to upgrade to 2.3 please read the UPGRADING and 
INSTALL files.
