[dev] Transportprotocol patch for 1.0/1.1

      Hi there,

I just applied a patch to the 1.1 tree which lets the user configure
whether to use http or https (or anything else) through Config.pm. I
already have this patch in production over here and propose it for
inclusion into 1.0.
It is not intrusive, please consider.
