Agreed, this sounds like a bug, or at least like an anoying feature. Could you file a bug at bugs.otrs.org for this.
The second thing that I would like to accomplish is to modify the type functionality so emails sent to different address are assigned certain types.
A Ticket type XOTRS header will be available with the upcoming 2.2.2 release. In combination with a postmaster filter you should be able to set the type based on the mailbox. hth, BB
