OTRS:ITSM 1.2.1 on MSSQL

I’m trying to install OTRS:ITSM 1.2.1 on a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (v 9.00.3042).

I’ve executed the instructions as per FAQ #4200121 and it looks like OTRS (v2.3.1) is working correctly.

After that I was following the installation instructions for the ITSM modules: tried to add the first package (GeneralCatalog) but the browser returned the following message:

Malformed UTF-8 character (fatal) at C:/OTRS/otrs/Kernel/cpan-lib/XML/Parser/Lite.pm line 141.

After that I am not able to open the PackageManager page anymore. If I drop and recreate the package’s SQL table I can open again the PackageManager page and try to add again the package but the result is always the same (see message above).

Before using the MSSQL backend I successfully installed and used the same installation based on MySql so I think is a problem related to the way MSSQL stores the package data.
