Well, the dasboard plugin is for the 2.4 framework only. On version 3 you can enable TicketSearchFulltext via SysConfig, which gives you a search box that is present on every single page. We also we phpbugtracker, a great free bug tracker, and on every page there is a "Find bug" field in the upper right. All you need to do is enter a bug number up there and immediately go to that bug. But in OTRS we need to perform more clicks and travel through an awkward search form.

Can this be added to the feature request list for 3.0?

We are currently on 2.3.3.
