The backup and restore scripts do save other information (e.g. configuration files) apart from the contents of database so are preferable for this purpose. It has always worked for me. Danie Theron said:

I'm sure this question has been asked (and I have serched the lists and got the answer) , I just want to confirm if it is the right way.
Basically I want to move my system over to a more redundant system (Raid) , do I simply do a mysqldump of the database and then upload that to the new server?
Will it be possible to use the backup/restore script provided to restore the various files onto the new server? Basically I want to run the backup script on Server A , and then copy those files over to Server B and run a restore on Server B.
Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
