OTRS wan't to log into syslog. But it looks like there is no syslog running on your knoppix 3.4.
Solutions:
a) start syslog
b) [Kernel/Config.pm] $Self->{'LogModule'} = 'Kernel::System::Log::File'; $Self->{'LogModule::LogFile'} = '/tmp/otrs.log'; [...]
(and restart your webserver if you use mod_perl)
