While I havn't actually installed it on a shared host yet, I did install it on my local system in such a way as it is like a shared host, and I expect to be able to just upload what I have done to a shared host when I get around to it.  It didn't take too much to figure it out, unfortunaly it was a while ago and I can't remember of the top of my head.

I modified the install routines to work with the database already created (because can't do create database), and so that they don't chown files (because only root can do that), I think I changed some file permissions about a bit to allow the web server (nobody) to read some files.

You will probably still need SSH access to install it, but it can be done with a little jiggery pokery.

Can anyone confirm OTRS can be installed on a shared host without root
access or http.conf access, but with ssh access and .htaccess access and
user permission access? Basically, any traditional hosting service like
1&1, etc. Many small to medium business don't have their own private
server and thus it would seem very useful if it could be done on a
traditional hosting account.

I myself have spent several hours attempting to install this on 1&1
without success. I appear to have all the necessary application
requirements (e.g. perl modules, etc).

Perhaps it can be done, but to be told how one must pay for commercial
support? If so, does anyone know how much that costs?
