Is Apache2 and mod_perl2 the default on RH8?
# rpm -qa | grep httpd
	httpd-2.0.40-11
	httpd-manual-2.0.40-11
	redhat-config-httpd-1.0.1-13
	httpd-devel-2.0.40-11

So Apache is 2.0.40

	# rpm -qa | grep mod_perl
	mod_perl-1.99_05-3

So mod_perl is 1.99 

Back to square one :-)
