All I had to do was:
1) Install the latest OTRS per documention 2) Delete the database it installed 3) Import a backup of my old OTRS database 4) Run the upgrade scripts in order 5) Start using OTRS 2.2.5
The UPGRADING file in the OTRS distribution mentions you have to run these scripts. Nils Breunese.
