I think that averyone has to eat making what he is good to do. I don't know if I'll be clear or right but I mean, mysql (before sun/oracle aquisition) was not doing something similar ? there where a mysql.com that sold support and special mod to the standard free version...

So, why not having a OTRS that is built with the contribution of all along with the debugging (and so on) in a matter to have a general purpose "core" system that could be used by everyone and then sell special operation/support to client that requests special/hard/long other thing.

an example. In a company where I've installed the system they asked me to have special reporting that with stat is not easy enought to be done or not as the client would like to have. I've asked at the list and (I did not rememer whom) the list has responded me that the report could be produced under payment. I've passed the the information at the client.... I know that they have accessed the DB with a "just in house" (probably not free ;) ) reporting tool..... Everything has remain "free". Nothing would reglet the client to contact otrs for the special reporting to be done....
