I don't even get that far. just click on merge, and get the error immediately. :(

I got this error too when I copy and paste the ticket number to merge to. Try carefully removing any preceeding and trailing characters from the number. Worked for me.

I can't merge tickets that are new (owner is root@otrs). I have admin rights, so why can't I do this? IS there a configuration option to allow this?
