I upgraded from 3.0.
So it appears it is fixable then by running the update? yes? How would I do that?

backup your database. and everything else.
Read UPGRADING in your OTRS folder.
You'll need to do three steps: a DBUpdate for schema, a perl update, and a
post schema update, plus cache, config etc.
This is assuming it hasn't been done already. I don't know the state of
your database, especially since you had a crashed table.
While the information should work, you should test it out before changing
production. The information I've provided is not guaranteed for any
purpose, and your situation may involve pieces that I can't guess from a
mailing list.

backup your database. and everything else.
Read UPGRADING in your OTRS folder.
You'll need to do three steps: a DBUpdate for schema, a perl update, and a post schema update, plus cache, config etc.
This is assuming it hasn't been done already. I don't know the state of your database, especially since you had a crashed table.
While the information should work, you should test it out before changing production. The information I've provided is not guaranteed for any purpose, and your situation may involve pieces that I can't guess from a mailing list.

I ended up having to reinstall DBD::mysql then I finished the process..
however now I no longer get any errors in ortrs.log but mail still does not send and I am left with just a blank page as previously

Yep everything looks just as it was before the upgrade in sendmail.. checking the logs again I do get the following notice
[Fri Aug 3 13:05:56 2012][Notice][main::_AutoRestart] Scheduler service is stopping due a restart.

Unsure if that would relate to not being able to send e-mails or not.. I just find it odd that it act like everything is ok (if something is wrong in sendmail it gives me an error back saying it cant send) the thread will update but the ticket won't close and e-mail won't send.

Are you really sure you're using sendmail? on Windows?! Have you got an
SMTP server you can try to use to see if it works? Also if you haven't
already make sure you completely restart Apache so that everything gets
reloaded from scratch.

Sorry, I meant under sendmail in the config and I am using SMTP with the following settings.
Module = SMTP
Host = odexc-01 (also tried via internal IP and odexc-01.ocusd.local)
Port = 25
Username/pass are set

At what point do you get the popup window? When clicking send? Not sure
what is causing that (certainly doesn't happen on any OTRS systems I've
ever used), does the Apache logs indicate that it's tried to access
something that doesn't exist and then redirects you back to index.pl? (you
may need to tweak the apache config to turn up your logging level).

Impossible to send is impossible to send. If you're still getting that, your SMTP server is blocking your ability to send.

How would an upgrade to otrs affect the SMTP server settings/blocking? I apologize for my ignorance on the subject it just don't make sense to me that something that the SMTP which was working prior to upgrade would be changed post upgrade when it was not touched From: otrs-bounces@otrs.org [mailto:otrs-bounces@otrs.org] On Behalf Of Gerald Young Sent: Monday, August 20, 2012 12:55 PM To: User questions and discussions about OTRS. Subject: Re: [otrs] Can't send e-mail replies after upgrade to 3.1.2 Impossible to send is impossible to send. If you're still getting that, your SMTP server is blocking your ability to send.

How would an upgrade to otrs affect the SMTP server settings/blocking? I apologize for my ignorance on the subject it just don't make sense to me that something that the SMTP which was working prior to upgrade would be changed post upgrade when it was not touched
Well, shit happens. Maybe OTRS now forgets to authenticate or uses a different sender address. Stuff like that. Shouldn't happen, yes, but who knows? *Something* has clearly changed here.
Can you confirm that the SMTP server is running and listening on port 25 and/or 478?
Can you confirm that port 25 and/or 478 are open and reachable from your OTRS server to the SMTP server? Nothing's going to work unless that's true. You can test that with telnet (telnet <host> <port>).
If you get a banner or a prompt for authentication, then you know the ports are open. Pingable tells you nothing these days; you have to test the specific application ports you care about to determine if traffic can flow.
If this doesn't work, then the problem is likely a firewall issue.
Can you confirm that you can manually construct a message from a telnet session originating from the OTRS server to port 25 on the SMTP server? EG:
telnet <smtphost> 25
and type:
HELO otrs.server.at.your.domain
MAIL FROM:

478? That's a non-standard port for anything SMTP related. Check for port 25 (SMTP) or 465 (SSMTP) or 587 (Submission) -- Ralf Hildebrandt Charite Universitätsmedizin Berlin ralf.hildebrandt@charite.de Campus Benjamin Franklin http://www.charite.de Hindenburgdamm 30, 12203 Berlin Geschäftsbereich IT, Abt. I stand corrected. I was trying to remember the SSMTP and Submission ports, and got them mixed together. I need better brain backups. 8-)
