There is no real danger. Which platform are you running? Hi Shawn, RHEL 4.x. I not exactly sure I understand what you mean by no real danger. I can just untar the new 2.2.4 tar file on top of my existing installation? Right now I installed 2.2.3 using the tar file since I didn't see any rpms for RHEL 4.x. So now I have a directory tree /opt/otrs-2.2.3/ with a symbolic link /opt/otrs pointing to /opt/otrs-2.2.3. When I untar 2.4.4 in /opt it creates its own directory tree so I also have /opt/otrs-2.2.4. It seems to me looking at the changelog that not a lot of files were changed. If there was an upgrade procedure to just update those file it would be great. Or do I have to redo all the things for a complete install in 2.4.4 tree. Thanks, Steve

If you use the .tar.gz, you will find a file called UPGRADING in there. That should have the instructions you're looking for. But yeah, there's no database upgrade script needed for 2.2.3 to 2.2.4. Nils Breunese. P.S. I'm using the rpm on CentOS 4 myself, you could use the rpm on RHEL 4 and upgrading would be even easier than using the tarball.

Hi Nils, The UPGRADING file says: These instructions are for people upgrading OTRS from "2.1" to "2.2". So that seems like not the correct instructions. What RPMs are you using for CENTOS 4.0? I didn't see any for CENTOS or RHEL. Thanks, Steve

I guess that means there are no special instructions then. I believe generally you just copy over the new files and run any applicable database upgrade scripts and you're done.

RHEL/CentOS 4 is based on Fedora Core 3, so I use the one for Fedora Core 3. (RHEL/CentOS 5 is based on Fedora Core 6, so you'd use the FC6 RPM on RHEL/CentOS 5.) It would be nice if the OTRS site would display the corresponding RHEL/CentOS versions. I'm not sure if installing the RPM over your source install will work by the way, but you could try if you have backups. The RPM installs into /opt/otrs. Nils Breunese.

Word up....thanks for clarifying this Nils...i was wondering the same thing.... [Isaac Gonzalez] quote: (RHEL/CentOS 5 is based on Fedora Core 6, so you'd use the FC6 RPM on RHEL/CentOS 5.) It would be nice if the OTRS site would display the corresponding RHEL/CentOS versions. Nils Breunese.

I believe the tar Nils was referring to (correct me if I am wrong Nils) is the SuSE RPM available for download.
When I untar 2.4.4 in /opt it creates its own directory tree so I also have /opt/otrs-2.2.4.
try relinking your /opt/otrs to /opt/otrs-2.2.4 #DB Settings and so forth copy Kernel/Config.pm from /opt/otrs-2.2.3 to /opt/otrs-2.2.4 copy Kernel/Config/Files/ZZZAuto.pm from /opt/otrs-2.2.3 to /opt/otrs-2.2.4 if you made changes to the cron then copy /var/cron/ from /opt/otrs-2.2.3 to /opt/otrs-2.2.4 if you have made template changes, copy any self made templates into there respective place fire your browser up and let'er rip I hope I could help you. I was referring to the Fedora Core 3 RPM, as RHEL 4 is based on Fedora Core 3. Nils Breunese.

Source tarball is exactly what it says though, and works! If it aint broke,
don't fix it :D
