Retrieving emails from a POP3 account into a Windows Otrs system

I have problems in retrieving emails from a POP3 account into my local Windows Otrs system. After installing Otrs, my steps were: 1) I opened a gmail.com account for testing purposes, and enabled retrieving. 2) I set up the POP3 mask at http://localhost/otrs/index.pl?Action=AdminPOP3 by entering the three main fields (username, password, host), and leaving the other fields to their default values. A similar approach, if I'm not mistaken, enabled me to retrieve my emails from a gmail.com account into a Mozilla Thunderbird local install. That was plain and straightforward to set. But here in Otrs nothing seems to happen, and mails are not retrieved. I read and re-read many times the documentation[1] at http://doc.otrs.org/2.2/en/html/x1269.html#email-receiving-pop3 but somehow it is written for "expert" people and/or gives for granted a bunch of things that I cannot guess myself. I do not understand if points 7.2.2, 7.2.3, 7.2.4 are directly related with my effort or not, and in case they are, they are written in a language for "initiated" people. Also, cryptic sentences like "working SMTP configuration on the OTRS machine is required" or "use a cron job"[2] are spread all over that page. I guess, also, that the whole documentation is written for Linux. Does anybody, please, have a hint on what to do? Why can I retrieve my emails from a POP3 account in Mozilla Thunderbird and I cannot here in Otrs? Maybe there is some hidden command link for manual retrieving emails? That would be enough for me. What am I missing? My main concern is to make moves and issue commands that do not spoil the system. Is there an alternative step-by-step Otrs documentation (maybe a wiki) anywhere? Thank you! Luigi [1] Also searched the list, but with no luck. [2] "Cron" seems to be a program for scheduling tasks, but my visiting c:\OTRS\CRONw and reading all the available (many) files left me with added confusion in mind. I just need to have emails retrieved every some 5 minutes, simply; while that tool is more suitable for NASA projects. The more I read, the more I feel I lost my way into the wrong direction.

GMail doesn't use the standard POP3 port. <http://en.wikipedia.org/ wiki/Post_Office_Protocol> says: "POP3 works over a TCP/IP connection using TCP on network port 110. E- mail clients can encrypt POP3 traffic using TLS or SSL. A TLS or SSL connection is negotiated using the STLS command. Some clients and servers, like Google Gmail, instead use the deprecated alternate-port method, which uses TCP port 995." I haven't checked if you can easily change the port in OTRS, but you might want to run your tests using a normal POP3 server. Nils Breunese.
