Hi OTRS-users, I´m not sure, that my first message had reached the list, so I send it again: as I told Martin a few weeks ago, we want to use the OTRS via an MS-Exchange-Server (Don´t hit me, it´s an existing and running system) I´m not an experienced LINUX-Admin, so I have a few problems with the mail configuration. First of all, after installing the otrs, I configured the KMail-settings to test whether it is possible to send and receive Emails with the Linux-client via the Exchange-Server. Configuring the outgoing mails as an SMTP with the datas of the Exchange-Server, it works, with sendmail it won´t. Second step was to configure the fetchmail-cron. Trying to send an Email from this account (private) to the office´s account, I saw, that this worked, too. (with a few changes in etc/sysconfig/fetchmail) At last I tried to send replies from otrs to the Test-customer. The only result is an received message, that the used email-address is unknown. Now there could be two problems: Misconfiguration of the Exchange-Server or misconfiguration of sendmail. Question: Must I use sendmail with otrs? If so, must I use a Relay-Server (the Exchange-Server) in the configuration of sendmail? Is there anybody who has experiences with OTRS (or similar) and MS-Exchange? Thanks for your help. Please tell us what sort of Linux Distribution you are using. For now I assume that you are using a SuSE 8.0. Knowing the distribution makes it easier to give advices.

Unfortantly I don't remember the exact sendmail software configuration for that on a SuSE 8.0. Please have a look at the directory /etc/sysconfig/ there should be a file named "sendmail". In that file should be a RELAYHOST part. Please change the value of that to the IP Adress of your Exchange-Server. After that start SuSEconfig and restart your sendmail (rcsendmail restart). That should be it. In worst case call the SuSE Support. They should be able to tell you how to do it within 90 seconds. Please be sure that the Exchange system allows to be used as a RELAY from the Linux system. Maybe you have to allow it. I don't have a clue about Exchange. You are right, I´m working with Suse 8.0

I found that file and described the Exchange - Server as the Relay_Server, but that did´t matter. I think I´ll try several things tomorrow and then I will call the SuSe support. Regards Klaus

Oh... fine. After that you have to execute SuSEconfig (which writes the new sendmail.cf) and restart sendmail (rcsendmail restart). Then it should work. PS: If you have no external-DNS in your lan (IP<->Domain of external hosts), you also have do disable DNS-Lookups in the same file (/etc/sysconfig/sendmail...).

Klaus
