OTRS 3: worth the wait? Any information regarding features / sneak peeks?

Hi everyone, I have noticed several short statements regarding the upcoming release of OTRS 3, but all of these seem to be quite vague. Perhaps I am overlooking something, but I have not seen any detailed information regarding features, improvements and release dates. Is there a place where I could find this? We have recently discovered ActiveCampaign Helpdesk software and I must say that it is looking rather good. We have been OTRS users for quite a while and I'd rather not switch systems only to discover that OTRS 3 is a complete overhaul and makes me want to switch back again. Any information on this new release would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Best regards, Aron Rotteveel

Hi Aron,
If OTRS3 is worth the wait, you should obviously decide for yourself..
All I can give you right now is some screenshots on page 22 of this document:
http://www.otrs.com/fileadmin/mediafiles/Download/Praesentationen/Service_Ma...
For the design we've worked together with a company that is
specialized in interaction design. I'm really happy with the way it
works and think it's a major step ahead in usability of the product
(and it just looks great, too).
We are currently working on HTML prototypes that serve as the basis
for OTRS 3. They will be finished in the upcoming weeks. After that,
there will still be lots of work implementing that in OTRS. We hope to
be able to share more details on the project, including timelines etc,
in April.
I hope you stay tuned!

Hi Michiel,
Thanks for the quick reply and PDF document. From what I can see in this
document the interface has been drastically changed. Looks promising!
For now I'll keep informed about any more developments regarding OTRS. It
would be nice to have a timeline in April and ask for community input on
this release. I am sure the project quality would greatly benefit by this.
Best regards,

As mentioned before, I believe that OTRS can greatly benefit from more community feedback during the development phase.
I agree on this. There is totally not integration of the community for new features and new releases. I never have seen this in any other open source project. :( -- English OTRS Forum: https://www.xing.com/net/pri12c70fx/otrs-en/

I guess they believe they can't handle it the proper way.
So many queries and feedbacks will come up which may delay or slow down the
project.
It's better to go with a beta version instead of getting involved in the
alpha phases.
They are probably involving experts about the processes like ITIL , ITSM in
these phases.
Who knows?

Well, as stated in the document on the OTRS.com website, we will release the
first beta in August, so that will be a great time to see what we have been
up to. Apart from that, of course, before August, we would love to give you
info on what we have done so far, why we did it and are - as always - open
for your feedback.
Things have been a little bit slower than people are expecting, and this is
due to the fact that we just happen to have a new director in the USA who
has loads of marketing experience in open source, as you might have seen
announced this week. See http://bit.ly/d2sU5m . One of his previous roles
was director of marketing at Red Hat.
This advantage caused a disadvantage, because that takes time, we could not
spend that time creating OTRS3 news articles. I KNOW you all are waiting for
that and are eager to see it, and we do really appreciate that.
All I'm asking is just a little bit more time, so stay tuned, I'd love to
give you updates on the work we've been doing so far....
((enjoy))

I guess they believe they can't handle it the proper way.
So many queries and feedbacks will come up which may delay or slow down the project.
It's better to go with a beta version instead of getting involved in the alpha phases.
They are probably involving experts about the processes like ITIL , ITSM in these phases.
Who knows?

I agree on this. There is totally not integration of the community for new features and new releases. I never have seen this in any other open source project. :(

Well, in this case, OTRS 3 is a 'framework' release, so it's not **really**
about ITIL.
OTRS3 is all about the new GUI, so we *do *work with (external) experts on
the subject of accessibility and usability to implement a new user interface
that is more intuitive and more usable.
