What are everyone's recommendations for an good MTA for a Windows 2000 install of OTRS1.1.1?
Here are my recommendations: MERCURY/32 ========== Try Mercury/32 in the first place. It comes with everything you need to serve small to mid organizations. Visit http://www.pmail.com/overviews/ovw_mercury.htm to get an overview of what Mercury/32 is. Read http://www.pmail.com/overviews/ovw_mercwin.htm for the feature list. There's a Novell port available, and that's where Mercury actually comes from. No prob with it, but if you got an old Novell Server (or a new one) to integrate, this is the product to choose. It's free, btw. Download the latest version 3.32 from http://pmail.com/downloads.htm SAMBAR SERVER ============= Another approach will surely be the Sambar Server. Visit http://www.sambar.com/syshelp/features.htm for an overview of what this bunny can do for you. It#'s not just a mail server, but suits all the needs a small top mid sized organization could have regarding mail, web, file transfer and the like. The basic version is free, but you have to enable the Pro version to benefit from the mail server. This will be possible for US-$99, payable online. If you're interested, I could perhaps ask the developer for a special discount for OTRS users. Download the latest Production version 5.3 or the latest Beta 6.0 (still a little bit buggy) from http://sambar.robertkehl.de/ ROCKLIFFE MAILSITE ================== "An easy to use and secure email server for enterprises and small service providers" states their home page, and that's right. In my eyes this is one of the most stable server apps available on Win32. Get a glimpse of it at http://www.rockliffe.com, where you can download the 30-day eval version. Feel then free to ask me for a special price I can surely of you. EXIM ==== The good, the bad and ... exim. No, exim (http://www.exim.org) isn't the ugly at all, it's one of the most powerful email server applications you can get, beating sendmail in my eyes. It's available on Win32 under Cygwin (http://www.cygwin.com). Although it seems exim is an outdated product or the like as it comes without any windows-like GUI, it is in fact capable of suiting all of your email needs by being highly configurable. You "just" have to get familiar with exim's internal concept of processing the mailflow to get it working even for a large amount of users without additional scaling of the used hardware, f.e - although I'd not recommend such a 2-layer philosophy for a high-volume mail site. You should dedicated a Linux box or something similar, if you got more than a few hundred frequent users. exim is freely available via CygWin's http://www.cygwin.com/setup.exe Hope this helps, Robert Kehl http://www.roknet.de/ http://www.robertkehl.de/ http://otrs-win32.sourceforge.net/ PS: Feel free to email me directly if you need additional help in choosing, setting up, running and maintaining your eMail, web- and/or database servers. I'm able to offer professional services to assist you.
