AW: [otrs] Re: OTRS Badly Requires a Forum, Does It Not??

I think when we continue to use the mailing list in the way it was designed, and we answer directly to the thread, then we have continuity in an open problem, but it can be that I just have newbie euphoria. Or maybe I do not understand fully the needs of the whole. While fascinated by the responses that point out the elegant simplicity of maintaining a mailing list over some sort of "board", I have to second Steven's suggestion here that for certain types of info, a forum(or something similar) seems like it would work better than the mailing list and archives. E.g., if I wanted to understand the history around the current Stats reporter and how to extend it to create more helpful reports, downloading the archive and searching through them seems downright painful. I'm guessing that such a crucial topic would have been a well maintained thread in any forum and thus much easier to parse over the years. I could be wrong. BTW, treocentral.com has pretty nice boards(as an example of forum software I find helpful). I understand most responses here would be, "great knock yourself out and let us know". Well, it might be a while, and I'm still not sold on OTRS extensibility, but if I continue to use this software in my work with multiple clients, I'll put some resources where my mouth is... ;-) -- jt Steven wrote:
The one benefit to a forum, or preferably a Wiki, is a place to store common config changes, best practices, etc. For troubleshooting, the mailing lists and archives are best. But a Wiki could reduce the repetitive questions.

I prefer a mailing list or a newsgroup to a forum. A forum application definitely requires more work, and is web-based. I prefer an email interface. The only complaint I have is that the lists are not searchable, without downloading the entire archive and doing a text search. Now, does anyone have any advice on my post about my DB error using mod_perl2? Is there any documentation on using mod_perl2? The README.webserver mentions to include a different script, but... please help. I am hoping that switching to mod_perl will increase performance, and I will try the other suggestions in the docs for otrs and DB optimisation. OTRS is eating at least 75% of my CPU on every request (according to top.) Of course I am only running a P2 450 w/ 512 but it is slooooooww. Just get me past this DB error, and I can convince the bosses to upgrade. -- Matt M. shawn.beasley@dlh.de wrote:

ACK.

Yes, but look at this links: http://www.mail-archive.com/otrs-de%40otrs.org/ http://www.mail-archive.com/otrs%40otrs.org/ http://www.opensubscriber.com/messages/otrs@otrs.org/topic.html http://www.opensubscriber.com/messages/otrs-de@otrs.org/topic.html A searchable archive at otrs.org where nice to have. Personally I like mailling lists over forums. But a wiki where god for collecting things. Matt, You can search the mailing list online via the following: http://www.mail-archive.com/otrs@otrs.org/ Hope this helps!

Hi, what I have found to be helpful, go to google.com and restrict your search to lists.otrs.org with site:lists.otrs.org , additionally you could add "-CVS" to weed the CVS logs out..
