Hi Rajaa
Is DEEXVS03.wincor-nixdorf.com
http://deexvs03.wincor-nixdorf.com/pingable from the machine hosting
OTRS? Also with your username you can try
pre-fixing the username with your domain, such as domainname\domainaccount.

Hello Jose,
thanks for your mail.
I did install a new Perl version from www.sunfreeware.com.
This version is now in /usr/local/bin.
I want otrs to use /usr/local/bin/perl - not in /usr/bin/perl.
The path to perl must be defined somewhere in the otrs configuration file.
I would like to know where I have to adjust the path.
I checked www.sunfreeware.com but can't see and package for apache mod_perl.
If there is one what would the name be?
Thanks again,
Bernard

We are having similar issues on systems (not Solaris) where the correct version of PERL is not in the place specified within each OTRS .pl script.
It does not seem to be an issue in getting the main web interface working, only where you run a script explicitly – eg the cron jobs, or otrs.checkModules (there may be other cases too).
We are encountering this issue for example on Red Hat with XAMPP installed, where that version of PERL doesn’t live in /usr/bin/perl.
It looks as if the value hard-coded in each script takes precedence over the directory order in the PATH variable.
The only solution we have considered so far is manually editing the first line of each .pl file to specify the correct path. Maybe another solution would be to allow this value to be specified and used to customise each install.
Interested to hear any other workarounds!
Phil

Marco,
I read that some people are doing this.
While I don't particularly like this idea it may in fact be the easiest way - unless appending '/usr/local/bin' to the environmet path works because it finds the new perl version before the old one.
I'll let you know how it went.

Bernd

But OTRS doesn't find the new version. I think that I need to tweak Config.pm or another configuration file. Does anybody know where I have to specify the new path (/usr/local/bin)?
Also, the original Apache server come with mod_perl2 while the new package doesn't contain mod_perl or mod_perl2. Are there package for Apache mod_perl (yes, I'm new to Solaris).

Jose,
thanks very much for all your hints!
I'll discuss with the client which route to take for mod_perl (as he has to pay in the end).
I do know shebangs but I was looking for a dedicated setting in a configuration file.
Obviously editing all programs also means that I has to be re-applied after every upgrade.
Best regards,
Bernd

It is the only way. You have to hand-edit the first line and correct the route of perl.
Al the shells (sh/ksh/bash/csh), search for the first line to check if it begins with the magic word: #!
If it begins with #!string then execute: string file. It is the way of working of scripts in unix.
Best regards

It does not seem to be an issue in getting the main web interface working, only where you run a script explicitly ___ eg the cron jobs, or otrs.checkModules (there may be other cases too). We are encountering this issue for example on Red Hat with XAMPP installed, where that version of PERL doesn___t live in /usr/bin/perl.
Phil

I did install a new Perl version from www.sunfreeware.com http://www.sunfreeware.com . This version is now in /usr/local/bin.
I want otrs to use /usr/local/bin/perl - not in /usr/bin/perl. The path to perl must be defined somewhere in the otrs configuration file.
I would like to know where I have to adjust the path.

Hello list,
I've got the job to install the OTRS system on a Solaris 10 machine.
The original Perl version is 5.8.4 (which is too old for otrs). I installed Perl 5.8.8, Apache 2.2.9 and expat Sunfreeware packages. The original packages are in /usr/bin. Perl 5.8.8 is in /usr/local/bin. Apache 2.2.9 is in /usr/local/apache2
Any help is appreciated!

I compiled mod_perl (I used the perl of Solaris) I thought that it was ask package on sunfreeware.org but I have been mistaken. I see several options: 1- Use the webstack package from sun http://www.sun.com/software/webstack/index.xml It provides a lot of software (most of this software isn't need) The list of software that provides is: Web Stack Enterprise Manager (screenshots below) Fully relocatable Update Center ips(5) image distribution Apache HTTP Server 2.2.11 lighttpd 1.4.21 memcached 1.2.5 MySQL 5.0.67 and 5.1 PHP 5.2.9 Python 2.6 Ruby 1.8.7 Squid 2.7.STABLE5 Tomcat 6.0.18 GlassFish v2.1 Sun Continuous Integration Server 1.312 Sun says that these packages are optimized for speed, with small changes, and special options for the compiler. I haven't tested it. 2- Install using the perl and Apache of Solaris You have to install the Sun compiler (it is free), because the Apache and perl of Solaris is compiled with the Sun compiler. If you compile mod_perl with gcc it will be very dificult and prune to problems. 3- Install using sunfreeware. You have to install apache, perl, perhaps a the gcc used for compile perl and apache, and compile mod_perl Using aproach 2 and 3, I think that you will need to compile mysql driver for perl. Option 1 may be the more easy way (I have never used it). I haven't problem compiling installing software, it was the way of install software 20 years ago, where packages were uncommon.
