Windows 2k, MySQL, Apache project failure

Well, I officially give up. OTRS with Win2k and MySQL is a pipe dream. Every time I get one issue resolved, another pops up. Developers will be pleased to know none of it involves them! I found there is a problem on Windows 2k involving Apache and MySQL which will render OTRS (or any MySQL app, such as phpmyadmin) unusable and require Apache hard restarts on an almost continual basis. The problem is not OTRS related, it involves the interaction between Apache and MySQL. Essentially Apache spawns MySQL processes which go to sleep and never wake back up. This causes perl/php apps to hang waiting for data from the DB and make the interface appear to do nothing while your little IE globe spins away. The problem actually appears to be known for some time and no resolution has been produced. I'm now looking at a different server and/or porting to MsSQL or similar. Postgresql on Windows is Alpha1 and that is just unacceptable for a live system here. CT

Sorry to hear that. Apache.org speaks of Apache on Win32 as being a beta not as stable as the linux port. I'd suggest you switch to Suse or RedHat or whatever Linux you like best to overcome your probs. If you'd like to try once again: Have you tried using OTRS as a CGI Module on Apache2? A20 is said to be more stable on Win32than A13. If you'd use mod_perl on Win32, you'd get to instances of Apache running, initially up to 64 MB big. Those two do not reproduce themselfs, at least not on my box. You should always disable any feature on the webserver that's not needed. Lastly, be sure to always install and work on a clean system, fully patched, preferably from windowsupdate.microsoft.com. Although I'm too late now I assume - I'd be happy if you'd get it work, Robert
