I recommend to upgrade to OTRS 2.4. There are so many performance improvements in 2.3 and 2.4.

Hi Martin, I cannot upgrade right now, because I have too much work and no time to make the upgrade. Right now, I just want to make the database a bit smaller. Any idea? I will consider upgrading in 1 month or so. Is it a lot of work to upgrade from 2.3 to 2.4 ? thanks, marc

You delete the old tickets and then you optimize the database to free the space:

mysqlcheck --all-databases -o

Dear Ralf, deleting old tickets takes me DAYS or even weeks!! Because it takes sooo long to change from one page to another. Can I do this by using phpMyAdmin? If yes, HOW? If someone could give me a help, this would much appreciated. (da hier ja eh so viele Deutsche sind, kann mir auch gerne direkt auf deutsch und per e-mail an info@mercator.net geantwortet werden). Why? I just use a generic agent to do that. I specify a time range and delete the really old, closed tickets.

I just performed that here and it takes about 1s per ticket.
