RE: [otrs] Upgrading from Source 2.1.3 -> 2.1.6

I've just gone from 2.1.5 to 2.1.6, and kept the following .. Kernel/Config.pm Kernel/Config/Files/ZZZAuto.pm Kernel/Config/Files/ZZZAAuto.pm Scripts/apache2-httpd.include.conf Scripts/apache2-perl-startup.pl Hope that helps, Dave -----Original Message----- From: Steven Carr [mailto:s.j.carr@khipu-networks.com] Sent: 09 March 2007 15:30 To: User questions and discussions about OTRS.org Subject: Re: [otrs] Upgrading from Source 2.1.3 -> 2.1.6 Anyone any ideas of which config files I need to rescue? What is the procedure for upgrading from source, the UPGRADING document doesn't seem to contain any information on this.
In particular I know it should be a basic "drop the new files over the
top" replacement but which config files to I need to move to one side and then put back when the upgrade is complete.
Any help on this would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

Please check out the UPGRADING file in the source distribution for instructions on upgrading OTRS. Nils Breunese.

For the record, I did this before posting and the UPGRADING document contains *no* information on which config files are important, or any information on whether there are any DB changes. Steve Nils Breunese (Lemonbit) wrote:

I just downloaded the .tar.gz (I use the .rpm normally), but the UPGRADING file does in fact list the things you need to backup and provides you a command to run to upgrade your database (only needed to get to 2.1, but you can run it anyway). Nils Breunese.

Forgive me for playing "ignorant user" here but the instructions clearly say:
These instructions are for people upgrading OTRS from "2.0" to "2.1".
I am not upgrading from 2.0, I'm upgrading from 2.1.x. The documentation needs to be more precise in future. Steve Nils Breunese (Lemonbit) wrote:

I upgraded (RPM) form 2.1.3 -> 2.1.4 -> 2.1.5 -> 2.1.6 No problems. I believe the OTRS policy is that database changes are only done with major release upgrades: 2.0 -> 2.1 2.1 -> 2.2 Etc Regards, Peter -----Oorspronkelijk bericht----- Van: otrs-bounces@otrs.org [mailto:otrs-bounces@otrs.org] Namens Steven Carr Verzonden: maandag 12 maart 2007 10:32 Aan: User questions and discussions about OTRS.org Onderwerp: Re: [otrs] Upgrading from Source 2.1.3 -> 2.1.6 Forgive me for playing "ignorant user" here but the instructions clearly say:

Yes, the general procedure is the same. There are some things in there that are specific to coming from 2.0 (config settings names have changed, database schema needs to be upgraded, etc.). I don't believe there are ever any database changes when only the third digit in the version is changed. Your next database upgrade will probably be to get to version 2.2.x (or higher). Nils Breunese.

I have installed OTRS from source before, but on my current system we have installed OTRS on a CentOS 4.4 system using YUM. I just checked the repos and 2.1.6 is not yet available (on the repos I have anyway). I'd prefer to update using YUM given that the install was made with YUM. Does anyone know of a YUM repo that has 2.1.6 available? If you really want to use yum (I wouldn't know why rpm -Uvh wouldn't do) you can download the rpm and use 'yum localinstall otrs*.rpm'. Since the dependencies are already installed this wouldn't be any different from 'rpm -U otrs*.rpm' though (except for an entry in yum.log). Nils Breunese.

Well, looking at the info, it seems I may have used yum to install the RPM after all. If I run "yum info otrs" it lists all the info on the 2.1.4 install, but it lists OTRS 1.2.4 as being the only thing available on the DAG repo.

I only want to use yum since that is what I used to install the running version. I usually get the source and install that in it's default locations, because, IMHO, I have found that the packages sometimes sometimes want to go in /usr/bin or something similar, as opposed to /usr/local/bin, or the places that the source want to install. With OTRS using /opt/otrs this seems like much less of an issue, but I want to be consistent.

Whether you install the rpm using rpm or yum really makes no difference. Yum is really just a dependency-resolving fronted to rpm. I wasn't talking about an install from source, just about two different ways to install the rpm. Nils Breunese.

Understood. I was just explaining why I used YUM/rpm as opposed to the source install in this case. For the record, I used YUM to install the RPM, restarted apache, and all is running sooth as silk.
