Assuming that your laptop runs Windows you can just download and run the
Windows installer. That will also setup MySQL and a webserver, so you
wouldn't have to worry about that.
After that I would manually configure a minimal setup: maybe you can create
and use a test mailbox, define a few queues and a few users.
Please do try to keep the OTRS and modules version numbers aligned between
the production and other environments, that is, unless you want to test a
new version before installing it on production.
Regards and good luck

Michael that is a splendid suggestion! Actually I wanted to do that anyway but was intimidated as I have never installed a copy before. How do I set up a small, simple testing environment on my desktop?
Regards

You did not specify what kind of testing you want to perform; but generally you should separate testing and production activities if possible. One of the benefits of using open source software is that no one is going to bill you for licenses for an extra test or development environment; depending on the software you use this can be tens of thousands of dollars. If you want to set up a small development/testing environment you can run OTRS on your laptop if there is no other hardware available; it does not require a lot of resources so this is a viable alternative.

wrote: Hi my query is about the Login page for customers at /otrs/customer.pl
What I want to do is to create a duplicate page with exactly the same functionality, which can be logged in to through the front end by users etc. for testing purposes
How do I go about doing this?
Thanks a lot
