Hi All, I got a problem when adding a new user. An unknown error message saying that there was a problem with the DNS Server is displayed (DNS server can not be found or something like that). Your help will be really appreciated Regards -- Derradji NACER Information Technology First Calgary Petroleums Ltd. 0044 1224 34 2488 / 2489 00213 2973 9534 / 9537 Fax: 00213 2973 9407 mob.: 00213 7279 0122

Hi,
Do you mean something with MX, this can happen when you activate mx checking, disable mx checking from the framework system management and try again to add a user, it will work.
I already had this problem.

Better than disabling the MX check would be to actually fix your DNS setup and get that MX record in place. Nils Breunese.

Hi,
I think the problem is that there is a module which verifies the email
address given (field) to a new user and if it is not found (the system could
not resolve the server : gmail.com for nacerd@gmail.com ) an error message
is displayed saying that the email given is invalid. For your information I
am installing the system in local with windows XP (virtual machine)
connected to the internet. In other such applications I did modify a config
file by changing the dns which is usally (localhost).
Thanx for your help.

OTRS tries to lookup the MX record for the domain and if that fails you'll get the error. If the MX record cannot be found this means email cannot be sent out to this address, so I would take this error seriously and not just disable the check whenever it fails.

If your server cannot properly resolve hostnames because DNS is not configured correctly you will have a hard time sending out emails with OTRS. You can use localhost as your DNS server only if you have a DNS server installed on localhost. Otherwise I would just use your ISP's or company's DNS server, or whatever DNS server is available to your other machines. Nils Breunese.

Sorry, but that's untrue. There's no need for an MX record for an email to be properly routed. Mail to someuser@somehost.example.com will be delivered to somehost.example.com in absence of an MX record for somehost.example.com -- Jesús M.
