Hi everybody, I'm going to migrate my server from Suse to Debian. I know that Debian has 2.2.7, and I have OTRS 2.4.7 on that Suse Can I just backup the mysql data, export all configuration data (as administrator agent -> admin -> sysconfig -> download all system config changes) and then restore? Thanks in advance. Adrián Fernández Leiro Departamento de Sistemas INVERAVANTE Avda. Linares Rivas 1, Bajo 15005 LA CORUÑA-ESPAÑA Tel. 981 25 74 81 / 981 12 62 29 Fax. 981 25 18 86

I strongly recommend to not use the Debian package but install from scratch on Debian. Hi Adrián, OTRS supports migration from version to version, and upgrading all the way back from 0.5 to latest 2.4.7, but NOT downgrading. As Nils said, please do a manual installation on Debian. It's not that much work and IS worth it. Debian is a nice platform. If you would ever have valid business reasons to downgrade OTRS, you would need to create custom migration scripts to perform the downgrade. By the way, there are specific installation instructions for Ubuntu Lucid
Lynx here:
http://wiki.otrs-forum.de/index.php?title=Installation_on_Ubuntu_Lucid_Lynx_...
They would be really similar to the instructions for Debian.

So there is no compatibility to restore my current MySQL database?

Sure you can restore your current MySQL database on Debian, but just not on
OTRS 2.2.x.
So the basic procedure would be:
* Set up OTRS 2.4.x on Debian
* Install all packages you had previously on your old platform
* Backup your old system using the backup.pl script
* Restore on your new system

Well, I followed http://wiki.otrs-forum.de/index.php?title=Installation_on_Ubuntu_Lucid_Lynx_...
Then I tried to do the restore but there was some problems.
I had to drop all the tables at otrs database and then give access and permission again to otrs user.
Also mysql> grant all on otrs.* to 'otrs@localhost' identified by 'otrsuserpassword';
Then do the workaround needed to circumvent the issue with Perl 5.10.1. ( look at this FAQ entry ) again.
Now it all seems to be working, but I still have some testing to do.
Bye and thanks

You can also try to install the otrs package from testing: http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/otrs2, it's up to date. That's usually not a big problem for webapps and you gain the benefits of the debian package management. Yours Karsten
